Areni Cave

The cave is a rocky room with niches and passages, which in different eras were settled by ancient civilizations.
During archaeological excavations in the cave, the most valuable specimens were discovered, which became key to the world history of the development of civilization. A valuable find was ancient leather shoes, which are perfectly preserved. Shoes are considered the most ancient in the world - it is assumed that it is 5.5 thousand years old. For comparison, let's say that the famous Stonehenge is 400 years younger than this shoe. Another valuable find was the oldest winery, which proved the existence of wine and winemaking in Armenia as early as 4000 BC. In the vessels and jugs found, traces of grapes, apricots, wheat and barley were found.
