The Church of St. Mesrop Mashtots is located in the village of Oshakan and was built over the grave of Mashtots in 443 by Prince Vahan Amatuni. The church was rebuilt in 1875-1879. In the eastern part of the church there is a bell tower built in 1884. At the beginning of the 20th century, during the Armenian Genocide in Turkey, the school located on the territory of the church sheltered orphans from Turkey and in subsequent years served as an orphanage. And today there is a beautiful tradition of bringing first-graders to the grave of St. Mesrop Mashtots, after which the children begin to study the Armenian alphabet.
