Khor Virap Monastery

The monastery complex Khor Virap is located at the foot of the legendary Mount Ararat near the border with Turkey. The monastery was built in a place of great historical and religious significance for Armenia. The name "Khor Virap" means "deep dungeon". On the territory of the monastery and now you can see the old pit-dungeon. It was here that the founder of Christianity in Armenia, St. Gregory the Illuminator, spent 14 years in prison.
Today, tourists have the opportunity to go down into the dungeon, located at a depth of about 6 meters, and see with their own eyes the place of detention of the great saint.
