The Church of Saint Gayane is one of the temples of the monastery complex of Holy Etchmiadzin. The building of the temple stands on the spot where Saint Gayane, the abbess of the monastery, where Roman Christian virgins lived, was martyred. Subsequently, it was here that she was buried. Saint Gayane Church, built in the 7th century, has an unusual combined design of a central-domed and three-aisled basilica. Representatives of the highest Armenian clergy are buried here.
