Yerevan is the capital of Armenia (since 1918), as well as the administrative, cultural, economic and industrial center of the country. It is considered one of the oldest cities in the world, founded by Argishti 1st in 782 BC. You can find the ruins of the ancient city at the Erebuni Museum. Legend has it that when Noah's Ark landed on Mount Ararat, the first thing he saw was this land, and he said: “Erevats (appeared). And from that day on, the city was named Yerevan. Residents of the capital know that with the arrival of spring it is already warm in Yerevan. It is sunny here 365 days a year. In summer, the average temperature is +25, sometimes it rises to +43 (July-August); in winter −4-5 C. Summer in Yerevan lasts more than 4 months. Winters are short and warm here. So our pink capital is a dream for tourists and residents of our country.
The enthusiastic guests of Armenia heard many words about its ancient capital. However, Yerevan is not just a centuries-old city with a fascinating history and amazing architecture. It is also where another modern life begins at dusk. Restaurants, cafes and bars in Yerevan are full of visitors at any time of the year and on any day of the week. Speaking of Yerevan at night, it should be noted that the capital of Armenia is one of the safest cities in the world with a low crime rate. So do not be surprised when you walk through the park exploring the city and see parents and grandparents walking and playing with their children late at night. Yerevan at night is especially active in hot summer, when it seems that the whole city has turned into one large cozy courtyard, where everyone is happy. Walking around the night capital is one of the important items on your to-do list during your trip to Armenia. The "pearl" of Yerevan at night is its multi-colored fountains, shimmering with all shades of the rainbow. The main fountain of the city is located on Republic Square. This is not just a reservoir, but a real "water orchestra", the jets of which demonstrate a fascinating dance accompanied by beautiful music. Near the Republic Square, there is a magnificent park, which was recently opened in honor of the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan. Its 2,800 fountains are painted in vibrant colors at night and bring visitors into a fairytale atmosphere. Cafes and wine bars in Yerevan can rightfully be called a special highlight of the night capital. Here you can taste the best varieties of Armenian wines, listen to good music, meet new interesting people and feel the atmosphere of love and happiness. Recently, the culture of nightlife in Yerevan has moved to a new level. A few years ago, nightlife was limited to just a few establishments from a few karaoke clubs and discos with a specific contingent. Now the situation has changed for the better, establishments began to open, where the culture of service, the atmosphere and the contingent strive for European standards. Most of the nightclubs are located in the city center. Both local performers in various genres, ranging from jazz to ethno music, as well as famous DJs from Europe and Russia play in the clubs. There is no strict face control in Yerevan clubs as such. Admission is usually free, unless, of course, a concert of some group or event is planned in the club.
The long and eventful history of the city was associated with the king of Ancient Urartu Argishti I, who built a fortress on the Arin-Berd hill and named it Erebuni. This fortress, in turn, gave its name to the city that grew around it. An ancient slab, discovered by archaeologists on that hill, became a kind of birth certificate of the city. The deciphered cuneiform inscription said: “With the help of the great God Khaldi, King Argishti, the son of Menua, built this powerful fortress and named it Erebuni”. It was 2789 years ago, 29 years before the rise of Rome (!). Ancient Yerevan played an important role in the economic and political life of Armenia for many years; it stood at the crossroads of caravan routes and was a major trade center. However, Yerevan was not the capital of Armenia, although it shared the bitter fate of its country. The invasion of the conquerors in the 7th-11th centuries, first by the Arabs and then by the Seljuk Turks, caused serious damage to the development of the country. The conquest by the Safavid (Persian) Shah Abass I in 1604 proved to be the most devastating for Yerevan. A. The earthquake of 1679 destroyed a significant part of the city. In the 17th-19th centuries, Yerevan became a "bone of contention" between Russia, Turkey and Persia. Taking Yerevan by storm on October 1, 1827, the Russian army signed the Turkmanchay peace treaty, according to which Persia renounced the Transcaucasian territory, including the Yerevan Khanate. Yerevan became the capital of Armenia only in 1920. Architect Alexander Tamanyan became the "father" of the modern city. He managed to create a unique appearance of the city, embodied in noble classical architecture and skillfully use the architectural elements of ancient Armenian architects: stone carving, ornaments, etc. In addition, Tamanyan began using tuff, the main natural resource of Armenia, in urban planning. Tuff is a stone of volcanic origin and is extremely lightweight, durable and beautiful. Most of all, pink tuff was used in the construction of Yerevan, and therefore the Armenian capital is sometimes called the "pink city".
The capital of Armenia has absolutely no shortage of hotels and guesthouses for every taste and budget, and every year the choice becomes richer and more diverse.
